Sewing Room Makeover
Is your sewing room or creative space in need of some TLC? If so, come with me in this video and let’s brainstorm some ideas to turn it into the perfect sanctuary where you feel inspired, comfortable and ready to do your best creative work!
Whether you have a little hobby corner or a big studio workroom, my 5 recommended areas to focus on are:
1. Space division
2. Colour
3. Kit
4. Storage
5. Admin
This is not just about prettification. It may be about accommodating physical, mental or neurodivergent needs so that your space is 100% accessible to you. You may have sensory sensitivities or personal preferences that affect your ability to concentrate and relax. Whatever your motivation, this is about self-care and at the risk of sounding like a hairspray advert from the 1970s…yes, you are worth it.
I’ve been a wedding dress designer dressmaker for 25 years and I have tried sewing on everything from wall-paper pasting tables, folded away each night, my family dining room table and even a priceless antique table in a stately home.
Before having a separate bridal boutique and dedicated sewing room, I used to divide up multipurpose family rooms with curtains or room dividers to try and keep my work separate, and I’ve tried every kind of sewing machine and storage system.
In this video, I share my top tips on making the best of the environment you have, whether you’re an aspiring designer dressmaker or you just want to do your crafting in a space that makes you feel at ease.
Let me know where you are on your creative journey and get in touch if you’d like any advice on setting up the perfect space for you.
