Wedding Dress Repurposing inspiration from the telly.

Repurposed old wedding dress

Your old wedding dress

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I grew up in the 1970s, when there was a TV show called The Good Life featuring a couple trying to be self-sufficient in their suburban semi in Surbiton. I would watch it with my mum, sitting on our avocado velour sofa, eating butterscotch-flavoured Angel Delight.

I was transfixed by Tom and Barbara turning their back garden into a haphazard small-holding and recycling anything that wasn't nailed down. Watching that show was my first exposure to the concept of repurposing and it planted a seed about the possibility of combining repurposing with style.

The next-door neighbour on The Good Life, Margo, may have looked over the garden fence in horror at the mess Tom and Barbara had made of their flowerbeds, but I am the first to admit I had both total adoration for her brand-new Pucci maxi dresses and a burning desire to put on my wellies and build a chicken run out of my old dolls house.

This childhood inspiration has shaped my entire approach to wedding dress repurposing. I believe it's possible to marry sustainability with style – to take something precious and transform it into something equally beautiful but completely different.

Your wedding dress doesn't have to become the equivalent of Tom and Barbara's wonky vegetable patch. Instead, we can channel Margo's sense of style while embracing the sustainable ethos of repurposing.

I would love to help you fall back in love with your dress and to see its potential, and to do this, you can Access my FREE guide to “Beyond the Big Day” HERE which is a video and PDF giving you an overview of where to start and what to do with your old dress - the first steps toward giving your gown the second life it deserves.

In my book, Relovable, I poured all my designer know-how into remodelling a rack of donated old sample wedding dresses, and in doing so, proved that upcycling doesn't mean compromising on elegance.

Some of the samples I worked with originally looked so dated you just wouldn't wear them, even if they were dyed or shortened. But with the right approach, as with YOUR dress, it’s possible to transform something old and possibly very crumpled into stunning pieces you'll treasure.

If you’re a bride-to-be, then download my FREE "Peaceful Dress Journey" guide HERE to discover answers to the most commonly asked questions from all my brides. After your wedding, I’ll then send you some ideas for what to do with your old dress.

You’ll find more about the bridal world in my book, Relovable which you can buy HERE. It was sustainably produced in a small print run and there aren’t many copies left, but makes a perfect gift for a bride-to-be, or for anyone who loves sewing, upcycling and wedding dresses.
